Eco-design
The Filet Bleu aim is to reduce its environmental impact.
Since 2004 we have been conducting an eco-design campaign on cardboard boxes (30% less cardboard) and reducing consumer packaging by 15%. Each year 150 tons of cardboard and 50 tons of plastic film are saved, which means 2,000 fewer trucks on the roads!
Water economy
Filet Bleu views water as a precious commodity. Since 2006 we have established a policy aiming at reducing our water consumption: water meters with regular automated readings, a dedicated washing room for utensils, no more pressurized water guns, wider use of automatic washers… After 5 years, we have reduced our water requirements by 36%.
To take it one step further, Filet Bleu is currently studying a rainwater collecting project. The roof of the biscuit factory could soon supply us with some of the water we need.
Gas and electricity savings
The key to a responsible company is optimising resources. Gas is essential for cooking biscuits and electricity is used for the powering of equipment, lighting, refrigerating and air-conditioning. For over 10 years we have significantly reduced the consumption of both energies. This has resulted in an economy of electricity – 35% and gas – 43%. This has been achieved by the installation of detectors which continuously monitor consumption and also many different types of more ecological machines such as an oven equipped with a heat recovery system and a more efficient and economical Hydrogaz system to preheat water.
Waste reduction
In only 8 years, waste has been decreased by nearly 50%: recycling of production waste into flour or animal feed products, the use of baling presses to compact cardboard and plastic waste: at Filet Bleu, nothing is wasted – it’s all recycled!
